Five Things You Can Do

If you think we have a shot at anything at all.

  1. Make something—band, zine, app, album, website, store, restaurant, venue, bar, poster, ceramic, painting, film, play—that could make life richer for you and someone else.
  2. Talk to a union that’s relevant to you and help them become less of a dinosaur, more in-touch with today’s battles, and see if they’re using their dues funds to lobby Washington.
  3. Call a representative on the phone. Allegedly it still influences what they do, even though we all feel burned by the 5Calls era of Trump I.
  4. Write some or all of your vision of what the US could be if it weren’t dragged down by its legacies of genocide and slavery, and include a section about what practically might be done to get reality closer to that vision. (Alternately, write your vision of what it could be if we don’t try to make it better, like Octavia Butler did.)
  5. Vote. Because while we’re all complaining and/or dreaming, policy-makers are making policy. And no amount of revolutionary posturing can stop their policies from affecting our lives.

If you don’t think we have a shot, I hope you at least dance on the way to your errands.
