The Neighbors with the Trains
The family started small, replacing a small oval of grass in the center of the backyard with tracks. The railroad grew every year, eventually filling the entire yard.
Now it can accommodate seven trains at once. Sometimes the Rustemeyers even put a plow on the front of the trains so they can run in the snow.
On a recent Saturday, neighbors and fellow train enthusiasts watched as the locomotives chugged past miniature shops, small people, a water tower, a cemetery and brightly colored rose bushes. …
The Rustemeyers also invite neighbors over any time they run the trains.
“At night the lights go on and it’s very relaxing. People love to just sit and watch it,” Shirley Rustemeyer said.
I wanna just sit and watch it.
