Painter In a Box
The idea that AI might be conscious falls apart pretty quickly when you consider ChatGPT Images. It’s also built on the same underlying AI technology, but no one would consider image generation to be conscious.
I agree with that.
But you can also imagine a painter in a box with a slot only big enough to pass notes in and paintings out. You wouldn’t doubt the painter is alive.
