Apple Explains Why It Removed ICE Tracking Apps Last Year
I (think I) understand the calculation, that the fight over this particular app is not the hill they want to die on with the Trump administration. But I still find it despicable that Apple bent the definition of their own rules this way.
The app is banned because it provides “location information about law enforcement officers that can be used to harm such officers individually or as a group.” Location information about your friends in Find My can be used to harm your friends individually or as a group. Does that mean Apple should ban their own Find My app?
The purpose of ICE-tracking apps isn’t to go and hurt ICE officers; it’s to stop them from kidnapping or killing people.
