What else can we doooweeooweoo?

Hola. Ko-ni-chi-wa. I feel it necessary to greet you in a different language, as having just studied the G20 economics summit, and thus knowing the name, position, and unnecessarily long middle name of several nations’ leaders, a level of cultural literacy has been dyed into my vocabulary.

PERPLEXED MAN I FOUND ON GOOGLE BY TYPING “PERPLEXED” SAY WHA?*

… wat? It seems like all I have to say lately (besides things about awesome projects with Beck and co.) is about school, and stuff related to school. I know this isn’t really a bad thing and NO I’M NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE that would just be unnecessary/ridiculous. So instead I am going to mention it un-articulately and segue into:

The All Ages Movement Project. As part of the Pepsi Refresh charity thing, these guys are competing for a $50,000 grant. It’s really, seriously, actually a great cause and something we should all be rallying for – I can’t tell you how many times my friends and/or I have been like, “Oh, wow, this sucks, I can’t go to this show because I am but a mere minor.” (just disregard that it usually works out for us with ties, anyway. it still applies.)

I think some people might be wary of an all-ages movement just because it IS true that some clubs / punk hangouts may not be the best environment for kids (i.e. somewhere Lux Interior might be swallowing a microphone playing). I don’t think this stands for a “transformation” of the music community, though, in the sense that musicians will have to watch their mouths or play kiddie songs. I think it stands for a transformation in the sense that, with parents who are aware of the place their kids will be / the things they will be seeing and hearing, kids won’t be banished from some of the greatest clubs of all time and subsequently some of the greatest music/bands/shows of all time.

I know, you could make the argument, “These laddies’ time will come. I had to wait twenty-one years to be in this basement with rats and barf and other unsanitary things on the floor. They can, too.” And to some degree I feel for that argument, because every time my little brother is whining and complaining to do something I can do at this age (ex. play certain video games** [as if this one isn't the only one I {or anyone} needs])… that’s basically what is said (with alterations, y’know). BUT STILL. That doesn’t void any of the points the Movement Project makes, or the fact that music is something holy and everyone should get to experience a maximum of it.

Anyway, this spiel is almost irrelevant because I think the All Ages Movement Project is petitioning for specifically all-ages venues.. and just kids’ music programs, in general… Still. Don’t forget to vote! (running ends the tomorrow night!)

Good talk, son. Good talk.***

* Oy, somebody slap me. Unintentional Miley Cyrus/Disney reference up there. :(

** That used to be a big “dispute”, not so much anymore because a. I hardly play video games / b. Sam plays most of the ones I’m allowed to play, anyway. So there.

*** In the words of Chevy Chase.
