A New Look At Trash

Jun 3, 2008

Compost heap on a frosty morning. The rising steam shows that the bacterial action in the compost heap is exothermic.Image via WikipediaWith the anxiety of global warming looming over the world’s shoulders, people have been increasingly creative with their waste. Some have reconsidered what they were going to discard, and applied it usefully to their lives, or simply recycled it.

Some waste management companies have employed a new technology that captures landfill gases, such as methane, and purifies them before they have the chance to pollute the planet.

Waste materials that are organic in nature, such as plant matter, food products, and paper material can be recycled by using a compost. Composts decompose the waste which produces mulch, as well as methane. Mulch can be used for landscaping purposes, and the methane can be used to generate electricity. Theoretically, a farmhouse could run self sufficiently using a compost pile.

Hopefully our beautiful planet will once again attain its natural pristine environment, and humans will respect its well-being.

Spencer,
Very well written. Your expression and trying to get the world aware easily convince me to try these things^. Nice job! Great job on the blog, site, and Tully Monsters’ site.
Sincerely,

Great post, Spencer! I think you should bug your mom about starting a compost heap in your backyard.

Hey Spencer.
Great post! Something I just recently read about REALLY freaked me out.

Great Pacific Garbage Patch

and more at Hot Stuff Works

We all have a lot of work to do to make up for the last 200 years. It makes me happy that kids your age are not only aware but energized to do something about it!
