Here, come to our ice/hundred-dollar-ice-cream/oxygen bar

Jan 3, 2010

First up, Las Vegas (whoa I’m actually recapping!)

This was a ridiculous city of three-sided taxi ads, cheezy fonts, cities inside of cities, indoor smoking, broken escalators, cars spinning around on tables, three dollar chocolate strawberries, scented t-shirts, and as mentioned in the title, a multitude of ‘bars’. Oh and “COUGAR” sweatsuits.. We got to the hotel on Sam’s birthday. It was all decorated with Christmas-y stuff.

(In Las Vegas, you have three ceilings.)

The first day we walked around a lot. We went to the Coke store and rode a roller coaster (in New York – cities in cities), and celebrated my little brohan’s birthday! This mascot bear came by to give him some good luvin’.

Also at the Coke store was this weird drink tester thing from “around the world.” There were 16 different flavors and 16 weird colors. Some of them were good.

BEWARE: ITALIAN COKE-WHATEVER TASTES LIKE ORANGE PEEL.

this building is gold-y-colored.

oh yeah the “sphinx.”

Okaydokay, this is probably enough photos and talking about fun stuff (knew it wouldn’t last). I have matters (back to school homework, nutrition, etc) to tend to. There are many more on my flickr and some on tumblr. But one last thing – QUESTION: how should I sign posts? I want to constantly show gratitude while not typing “x” or “<3″ and stuff. I could just say “thankya” or.. OR “thank you” in a different language all the time (google translate). Okay nevermind this is somewhat stupid x danke gracias <3.

Happy three-days-into-2010!

FOR THE RECORD: the best Coca Cola is by far the classic Coke in a glass bottle, sugar-cane style. Mexico. NOT FOR THE RECORD: is this post mediocre?

I am in favor of the “thank you’s” in different languages (learning effect!).
Did you get to drink the sickly-sweet german “Fanta”, allegedly the “pope’s favourite
soft drink”?
Gratias tibi ago quod bene scribis! Tibi quoque novus annus felix!
(ancient Latin; it has been five years since I finished my “Latinum”-exams, so it’s a bit rusty these days)

International Coke flavors, where the evils of globalization never tasted so good! I love both the international Cokes in Vegas and the World of Coke museum in Atlanta, though I can never remember the flavors. Here’s what they all are thanks to a bit of googling:

Tray one:

1. Inca Cola (Peru) – Sweet, good
2. Sunfill Mint (India) – Tastes like Scope mouthwash
3. Stoney Ginger Beer (South America) – Reminds me of ginger candy
4. Aquarius Citrus (Taiwan) – Not fizzy, like a watery orange juice
5. Delaware Punch (Honduras) – Rich berry flavor, tastes like cough medicine
6. Vegitabeta (Japan) – Powdery flavor, like it was pre-mixed
7. Smart Watermelon (China) – Light taste, subtle flavor, good
8. Kinley Lemon (England) – Way too tangy, too much lemon/lime

Tray two:

1. Lift Apple (Mexico) – Reminds me of apple cider, prefer apple cider though
2. Fanta Kolita (Costa Rica) – Overwhelming and conflicting flavor, way too sweet
3. Krest Gingerale (Mozambique) – Blah! Yuck! Not a big fan of gingerale
4. Bibo Kiwi Mango (South Africa) – Not sparkling, a little too sweet
5. Bibo Pine Nut (South Africa) – Very sweet, not a fan of pineapple
6. Smart Apple (China) – Powerful, too much zing
7. Beverly (Italy) – BITTER! Unsuspectingly so; aftertaste
8. Mezzo Mix (Germany) – Tastes like Pepsi or Coke

The supermarket here sells Inca Cola & some other Jamaican & latin American sodas. I’ve never tried any of them.

The picture of Sam reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are.

Maybe it’s his red eyes, but I swear, something about that bear is terrifying.

Your post is not mediocre; it’s a concise review of your stop in Sin City. Would now love to hear about Hotel Arizona and the City of Angels.

If you ever make it to Atlanta, you could visit the World of Coke downtown. I went for the first time a couple of years ago. It’s right next door to the Aquarium, which is supposed to be fantastic (haven’t been yet). It’s basically a walking advertisement for Coke and their products, but since it was invented here, they take it pretty seriously. One of the things to do at the World of Coke is to go to the tasting room, where they have 4 or 5 different fountain stations, each with about 20 different Coke products from a different part of the world. Like BF said, “Beverly” from Italy is disgusting, one of the worst beverages I’ve had the displeasure to taste. But some of the others are good.

Spencer,

You are so right on with Mexican Coke being the best Coke.

By no means mediocre.
It’d be quite amusing if later in life, some woman wearing the cougar sweatsuit started hitting on you.

If i were you, whatever’s in your head at the very moment you end your post should go down on it, don’t stick to the same thing, nothing good ever happens twice x

I found Las Vegas to be freakishly overwhelming. Maybe it was because I was expecting a baby 3 months after my one and only visit, but the late summer heat, smoke, drunkenness and chaos was almost too much. I did like the Miracle Mile shops simply for the ceiling. I had to keep looking up to make sure the clouds weren’t moving.

Real sugar Mexican Coke IS the best. Ooooh, now I’m longing to hit the supermercado…
