Whipped cream on a pickle – Tweedy, Samuel

formspringys

This is way after the fact, but I’m still jealous that you met Ben Gibbard. It is yet another reason for me to feel inferior to you. :]

You’re not inferior!

What became of phony Beatlemania?

It’s bitten the dust. London calling. I feel like these are all a test of my music knowledge.

Have you ever read Romeo and Juliet? I’m playing Lady Capulet in my school’s production and there’s a lot of sexual innuendos in it.

Depending on which grade you’re in (or not depending) I’m sure those innuendos are HILARIOUS.

do you like to cook?

Eggs, grilled cheese, cookies. My repertoire.

Are you allergic to anything? How about the rest of your family? (I.e. nuts, pollen, etc.)

I don’t know what specifically I’m allergic to but definitely something. I have allergy shiners under my eyes every second of the year.

What do you think about when you listen to music: the lyrics, the rhythm, or something completely random? i pay attention to lyrics… then sometimes i come up with little music videos in my head. yeah………

The music! I have a tendency to listen to beatz sometimes, but just the music, mannn~~. Ooh I like making those imaginary music videos.

My dad is a weed scientist. A) How do I make this cool? B) How do I keep people from snickering?

A) Why does it need to be cool? It’s not like some really square job; you could just call it ’scientist’? B) Ignore it? I know that can be hard. This seems backward from what the people I’m around would be like, though.

You rejected my twitter request again. This is beginning to hurt my feelings. Also, would you rather buy a book in paperback or hardcover?

I’m sorry! You must have a really sketchy suspicious scary profile picture or something. But I’m sure if you were really a psychopath you’re picture would be flowers or candy or something. Reverse thy-chol-ogee. Oh about books.. paperbacks are cool because you can put them in your pocket or fit them easily in book bags. But hardback’s are classy.

Hey there. I was just reading an article about your dad (and a little about you) from Rolling Stone circa ‘04. He played the interviewer what he describes as “the coolest thing he’s ever heard.” Then, the interviewer says it’s an old yodeling sister act, and your dad says that her voice sounds like a trumpet. For some reason this sounds amazing to me, and I would love to know what it’s called if you have any idea. Or, if you remember it in passing by your pops and feel like asking him a quick question about it, I would be ecstatic to find out. Keep doing that thing you do, it’s all too good. Adieu

DeZurik Sisters.

You should go to Milford Sound if/when you visit New Zealand. Where’s a must go to place for if/when I visit Chicago?

SUPERDAWG.

You should listen to Neutral Milk Hotel, if you haven’t done so already. It will make you happy because they’re just dandy

Oh I have.

So Spencer, what’s your favorite album of 2009 so far?

WILCO (THE ALBUM), OF COURSE. I get paid to say that. In food. And shelter.

You turned me onto “Six Months In a Leaky Boat” and I absolutely *adore* that song. Thanks for reintroducing me to Split Enz!

It’s a great song. The production is kind of weird.

Have you thought about roughing it at a big festival when you’re older? Like camping with your buddies and living a filthy music filled existence for a few days to get the full experience.

Uh-huh. That would be fun. I don’t have any plans but it sounds raadical, duude.

ok, your mom and chloe sevigny look a lot alike they could totally be sisters!

Aaalright, I’ll pass that along.

who is tallulah?

My dad’s friend’s daughter.

Did you see the new Dylan ‘Must Be Santa’ video? It’s crazedy!

YES good cookie it’s frightening.

What’s the difference between harmony and melody?

From Henry Mosher, musical genius: “It’s hard to compare them because they’re two different things. I think also to explain them would be sort of demystifying music. BUT, if you were to compare them, melody is generally a central theme of a song, comprised of a series of notes that is often repeated, and, in most cases, is what the tune centers around.” [quote cut off due to: forgetting to type the rest]

you have fantastic hair

Thank you. smiley smiley.

this is apparently not nasty, and will not make someone angry or hurt. that is a lie.

.. okay.

Do you have certain colors that are more pleasing to your eyes than others?

Yees, green and blue. I also like all the other ones that I don’t not like.

Do you ever have substitute teachers at school? If so, do you treat them nicely? When I was in high school, my friends and I would throw little tiny paper balls at the substitute teacher, and the teacher would have no clue who was doing it. After class, we would go up an apologize to the teacher on behalf of the immature behavior of the other students in class, even though it was us that was being mean and immature. I am currently a substitute teacher. I teach thirteen year olds. Karma sucks.

Haha no, not really. Some other teachers at the school come in sometimes if one goes to the bathroom or something but nope.

Sometimes I’m jealous that you take such cool pics. any advice?

Hmm.. play with your camera? Take pictures of cool stuff? I just graduated camera newb-dom so don’t have any golden-solid nuggets of wisdom yet.

Aaahh haha. I like the picture for this link. Also, I read the Perks of Being a Wallflower and it was amazing.

Me too! And me too! Well, I read it awhile ago but it is amazing.

does it really matter?

CYNIC! CYNIC POLICE!

hello

Hi, again.

i love the little “terms of service” you’ve got going at the bottom of this box.

Hehehehe.

what are your plans after highschool as of NOW? (don’t over-think it dude)

to buy a spaceship and cohort around the cosmos whilst writing an epic on the topics of life/Earth whilst viewing Earth. DUH.

I had thanksgiving with my jewish cousins too!! :)

Sweet!

Recommend a song.

Waiting To Know You, Fiery Furnaces. Eyes, Rogue Wave.

DANCING LOBSTERS!

BLAH!

how did you become such a mensch?

I jus got me sum sunday skool and sum hebroo learnin. Or, more precisely, first my mother.. you know what, nevermind.

hey whoa now. how do you feel about pajama pants?

Like em. Comfy.

Ever heard the band Mute Math? I fell in love with the drummer.

I haven’t but that’s cool. Have you heard of the song Heavy Metal Drummer?

from you perspective, is my silent, somewhat morose, fourteen year old boy thinking something positive or negative when he sits’ in his parents company, without any engagement in the conversation surrounding him? And, does he believe the one word answer is a sufficient response when questioned (not interrogated) or is he just giving me the finger without the hand gesture?

Well, tough to say. According to my Masters education at Chicago School of the Teenage He might just be feeling sorry for himself because there are pimples on his face or something. Or there could be a “real” problem. By any means I am not calling you a bad parent but sometimes one musteth look in oneth selfth.

have you noticed that thursdays on NBC are like the best days ever? go 30 rock!

Yeah!

What’s your favorite aspect of living in the Chicago area? I need to know what’s cool to do when I visit from Oklahoma in January.

Being in a city with environmental diversity. We have downtown with a bunch of cool places and lots of culture n stuff, as well as neighborhoods and suburbs and even forests. So it’s pretty nice. I would suggest going to Da Loop (of course) and then.. google Time Out Chicago?

This is a stupid poem I had to write for english last year, I just found it… I only got a B, it made me sad (here);

It’s not bad! I like the last line.

I think you’d enjoy mylifeisaverage.com. It’s like FML, but for the average!

I never got into that whole FML thing. I’ll look at thyat though.

is your dad as funny at home as he is on stage?

Yep. If fart jokes are funny. No seriously, he’s mega-hilarious. Who doesn’t like fart jokes?!?

SPEENCCERRRR

Hiiiiiii.

I just heard MGMT in Wendy’s. What’s next, The Decemberists in Walgreens??

The world is obvi ending.

Sorry, but “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” is still my favorite Wilco album (not that I don’t like “the album” – I’m wearing the T-shirt I got with it right now :)

OK……. I thought your little “prog” comment was kind of funny a ways back. I feel the same way. BUT I am warming up to some of it. I was thinking – EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER……… as a drummer, you might REALLY dig some of Carl Palmer’s drumming. They are a really talented group, even if it doesn’t rub me the right way. Anyway, you should check it out, maybe you already know or have an opinion on it.

Following up on the good music in bad places: Wilco piped in on Delta pre-flight speakers. “You and I.” It made me nervous for some reason – messing with my world.

Some time when you are sitting at dinner with your dad, bring up in conversation that a girl you met in school is a jar, with a heavy lid, a pop quiz kid, a sleepy kisser, a pretty war with feelings hid, she begs me not to miss her. And then ask him what he thinks that means. Because I’m going nuts trying to figure it out.

Way to be a cool young dude. Harmony can be thought of as the vertical aspect of music and melody as the horizontal. Harmony = two or more pitches being sounded at a time. Melody = a single line, going along…
