Nov 30, 2009I took some fooji wooji instax pictures this weekend. I would write more than one sentence but I’m really tired and waited too long to write this! I did start documenting this awesome LIFE magazine from 1972 tonight, though. It has Dr. Land of Polaroid on it (the guy who invented Land cameras) and an exceeding amount of ‘low tar’ cigarette ads. This paragraph that was supposed to be one sentence has taken twenty minutes to write.
Most of them turned out reeeally underexposed because, the problem, you see, with my Fuji Instax is that there’s no flash on/off button, so when it’s a bit dark, the flash turns on which I guess automatically makes the exposure lower, so then if the subject is out of flash range (or you put a cloth over it or something) it’s just.. really dark. Is it just me or are these 5 sentences really long?
I want to make a book of fujifilms (for the charity project?).

Oy, I actually remember that magazine! I was obsessed with Polaroid cameras when I was your age and had one of the first SX-70s. Does your mom still have her “Swinger” camera? Those came out in the late 60s and I still remember their “Meet the Swinger” jingle.
LIFE magazine was surely the first thing that got me into photography and to think about the power of the visual image. You can never go wrong with collecting them for that alone, along with the superb writing and awesome retro ads. Go to the rummage sales of the elderly and look for them (LOOK magazine is good too)!
