We only frighten people
Sep 11, 2009Toooday my class went to Millennium Park for Flex Friday. I got soaked at the Crown Fountain thing and acted all tourist-y at the Bean, and beatbox-busked (aka scared strangers – we made no money).

I think you can see me in the corner

Oh em gee it’s so weird looking at it from under! We were the only ones on our backs (that’s my friend Amir, by the way) and when the actual tourists saw us they were like “hey look at those kids that’s pretty smart aaha” and then I called myself a trendsetter and took picshuhs.
Speaking of being tourist-y, when I met the German guys yesterday they had been to all the cool downtown things and I realized, I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life and have never even been in the Sears (er, Willis – ew) Tower! It makes me think we should do a stay-cation next summer or something. [p.s., when I said we talked about "the Cathedral" yesterday I meant the Cologne Cathedral.]
Yay weekend!

Nobody does ‘tourist stuff’ in their home city. I grew up in NYC and lived there for over 20 years and I never went to the Empire State Building or Statue of Liberty. I did visit the twin towers a few times, though. On the other hand I spent one week in Chicago and saw all the tourist sights. Same thing when I visit San Francisco & Vancouver.
I guess I’m just a dork, but when I go out of town, I am more likely to look for record stores than do touristy stuff. :-D
Although the last time I was in Chicago, I did drive down by the lake and it was awesome. Would love to live right there by the water.
OMG is your shirt an Information shirt? It’s super cool. Loveee that album.
We didn’t intend to bring you in a “I-have-to-get-aquainted-with-my-hometown”-situation. We’re tourists (although we try to hide it:) and so we more or less had to go to the must-sees. If you want to see a beautiful place just outside the city, go to Farnsworth House in Plano (southwest of Chicago). We did a tour there on friday and it was very impressive. Architecture at its purest.

when i was in millenium park, i took pictures of some jewish guy.
That bean attracts a lot of people. When I was at Millennium Park, they had this sweet ice-painting-thingy (did I really just say that?) competition there, and the artwork was sweet. I went in February 2008, and I will say, even though I’m from Michigan where it’s cold most of the year, the weather was brutal.
P.S. – I think the new Willis name is pretty sweet, compared to “Sears Tower”. Did you know that the WTCs were smaller than it? It kind of fascinates me. And the Hancock is bigger than the Empire State. Chicago rocks, and I won’t deny it.
I work across the street from the Sears/Willis tower in the birthday cake building. Come by anytime and I will take you up there! Also you look like Sammy in that last pic.
