I’m not a big Steinbeck fan, but I LOVED Travels with Charley. Charley is a standard poodle, and I know most people think poodles are wimpy girly-dogs, but standard poodles are really cool dogs with strong personalities and are very very smart. Charley was no exception. The book is well written and engaging, and if you’re a fan of Steinbeck you’ll probable enjoy it a lot.

Have you ever read any Farley Mowat? He’s a Canadian writer and his books are hilariously funny and real treasure troves of information about Canada as well as his fairly crazy family. He wrote Never Cry Wolf, which was made into a movie, as well as my personal favorites The Dog that Wouldn’t Be and The Boat that Wouldn’t Float. They’re the perfect light summer reading and will have you laughing out loud within minutes of opening the first page.
