Ah! Fun crazy vacation. Been so busy, on the road, citeh to citeh (livin’ the Hollywood life, perhaps). We do, however, have a day off in, two days, I think? So then I should have some decent writing/blogging/catching up time. For now, dudes, here is a glimpse at all the mayhem and shenanigans we Tweedys (Tweedites? Tweetians?) bring cross-country.

Amoeba Rasputin Records marquee, “new Wilco album, 6/30.” Trufax. Buy it! Go! Fetch… in three days!

Mural in a vacant lot. Pretty ~psychedelic~ man. Not as much as this, though..

IMG_3143

My mom and I went exploring in Berkeley and I came back like this.

IMG_3120

Funny story, actually (not really). We were walking around and saw a tie-dye street vendor.. thaaat’s it, kind of. Oh, then I changed in the street (what, we’re in San Fran, it’s normal) and I came back to the venue – The Greek – clad in full tie-dye.

IMG_3134

I’ve gotten so many strange looks these past couple of hours. Believe me. But I think for the most part, people here are used to seeing strange things? I don’t know.

IMG_3152

Here, child, candy from a stranger, hmm?

IMG_3161

Tallulah! Spot the tie-dye?

We got to see Charlie again (on Thursday). This time, Danny was kangaroo-caring with him! It was awesome seeing him out of the incubator for once. We got to do that, and visit the Tonight Show with Conan. It was so fun being there. Like the last time Wilco was on (when it was Leno), they had an Animal Planet dude plus a bunch of show animals. I felt bad for them, being hauled around in cages and whatever, but I’m sure they’re pampered and have a great life. (Or  at least that’s what I tell myself to not feel bad for them. Heh..) It was the first episode of the Tonight Show I’d seen with Conan, and I relleh relleh liked it. So. Funny.

Aight, I must go. I’m at the Greek Theatre now, wearing my full tie-dye and [was] blowing bubbles and playing mini-golf. Really adopting the San Fran lifestyle, methinks. *non-creepy wink.. y’know, like a lot of winks are creepy? non-creepy wink. there. bye. *similarly non-creepy smiley face* *

Oh, jeez – thank you for that outfit this morning! I’m still laughing – I think it was the having to scroll down to realize and appreciate the entire ensemble was what did it. My 6 year old likes to read this with me and I’m working on an excuse for why he doesn’t need to dress like Spencer – “Well, he got that in San Francisco and that’s in a land that’s far, far away. I know, he’s so lucky…” I think you should wear that on the first day of school in the fall.

That’s an awesome outfit! And you made it to Amoeba! Win!
Loved your Dad and the guys in those suits on Conan!

I wanna see you making the Blue Steel/Zoolander face in that outfit.

And whose kids are those? they are absurdly cute.

I lived in Bezerkely for a bit. That outfit is awesome, but definitely more tame than the naked guy’s outfit. And less scary than the cops-in-riot-gear outfits.

Ow! My eyes! It’s blinding me! :)

I just pre-ordered the new album. I love what I’ve heard so far.

Love the tie dye! Last week I went to a birthday afternoon tea which turned out to be a bit of a ukelele jam by some of the people there and they played Heavy Metal Drummer. Obviously it wasn’t the same but it was pretty cool!

From a review of the show.

A couple of songs after telling Saturday’s sold-out crowd at UC Berkeley’s Greek Theatre “I have to tell you, I think this is our favorite place in the world to play,” Wilco’s notoriously-deadpan frontman Jeff Tweedy felt like taking a jab at the locals.
“I want you to see what you’re doing to my son,” he said, calling out a smiling boy clad in obnoxiously bright tie-dye. “He went for a walk and came back like this.” Tweedy mock-glared at the kid and pointed off-stage. “Now go take a bath.”

I haz already preordered ze album. And have a digital copy that I *ehem* illegally *ehem* downloaded. Aren’t I a good girl to buy it though? =D
I like the walking shot because you’re just like “Yeah… I can rock it”. I also stand corrected on your long-arm-ness. Sorry I called you a gangle-monster.

The band sounded GREAT on Conan the other night. I don’t really like that song too much, but I really enjoyed that performance. Fo cereal.

AH. I WANT THAT WILCO PASS WITH THE CAMEL ON IT. Does the camel have a name, btw?

That’s a bold fashion choice. My pre-ordered copy of the album arrived this weekend, and it’s lovely. The whole family loves it. Thank the WIlco for us.

Tie-dye outfit is FANTASTIC! I think you should adopt the local fashion of every city you visit. We MISS you guys, come back to L.A. and put on a Hollywood power broker suit.

The Wilco: Next Generation are pretty adorable, but what on earth are the headphones for? I’m imaging it saying – “Here is a sound sample of Wilco. Here is a chord progression. Isn’t it pleasing to the ear? Wilco is your friend. You will be a powerful force in the Wilco empire. Yesssssssssss.”

Sorry, got a little carried away there.

SO FUN! Was wondering if you Tweedys travel much together when papa’s on the road. Love the tie-dye … it suits you! Glad you’ve been able to see little Charlie. Micro premies are a miracle to see. Glad he’s doing well. Enjoy your travels!

I am loving the outfit…I agree with wearing it on your first day back to school :) Probably will be too hot for it though. Was at Taste of Chicago and saw the signs for the lunch in the park with music and am guessing that’s what your band played in but since you are changing your name and I couldn’t remember when you had played I didn’t see your name on there.

The Protective Headphones are awesome! I like how the two little girls have such great colors. I didn’t realize you could find them in any color of the rainbow! Hope you are having fun traveling around.

I also pre-ordered but only paid for the slowest mail but one of my jobs has the cd already for overhead play and my manager let us listen to it a few times when we were closed and working on projects :)

Hi Spencer,

We hope Rockhawk had fun in Berkeley. We’re sorry our parents didn’t leave anything for him by the stage. They forgot it. So, if he’s bored, this will make him laugh. We will try to post some more funny things on our blog later today. Avery & Lowry

I can definitely see you starting a new fashion trend with your tye-dye ensemble.
You should get some tie dye converse to really pull together the outfit.

I think you just can’t refuse candy from a stranger if they decked out in full tie dye.
How could you they’re just so… colourful.

Hey Spencer: you’re pretty witty for a thirteen-year old.

If you really liked “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” you need to check out a book called “Rule of the Bone,” by Russell Banks.

Thank me later . . .

Mr. Tweedy!
I forget how I found this. But I thought it was cool that you are doing music. My best friend David did some mixes for your dad years ago~! How is CA>?

Cool that you drum! I have a few kits. 60’s Beatle kits… A Bonham kit or two, always Ludwig :)

Hope I get to see you rockin on some day and opening for your dad. By the way, you seem to really dig cool music. I write for TV. If you like The Beatles, you might just dig this tune. It will download if you click.
Cheers and have fun !

Hey Spencer! Hope the fun continues for you guys on the road. Just thought I’d share that Wilco music is played at some of the least expected times. I live in Winnipeg Canada, and yesterday was Canada Day (the equivalent of your 4th of July celebrations I guess). There’s a huge celebration here with music and (of course) fireworks, and in between the bands they just play recorded music. So what comes on but Either Way, which was exciting enough for me, then you are my face came on after :) that definitely made my night. Thought I’d share with you guys.

Gotta Have More Cow Bell!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have written a few times. I am the teacher from connecticut who recommended some books and told you that I showed some of my students how well you write.
Well last night I saw Wilco at Red Rocks. What an amazing place!
I gave you a high five after telling you how great your blog is.
Great show and even better with your amazing camel training and cow bell playing with your brother.
Keep up the fight.
It was worth the trip from connecticut to see this show and this amazing state!

Love the road blog!
As a fellow Chicagoan I have always wanted to see a show at Red Rocks, The Hollywood Bowl and MSG. Have actually performed at 2 of my big 3? You have to just reflect at how damn lucky you are!
I double-dog-dare-ya to wear that tye-dye ensemble on the streets of the Windy City!
And what’s the deal on the “Who’s been getting High” band?”
I think I’ve been turned on to a great local band, but of course now I can’t find out anything recent about the Sharks or the Prairie Spies. I saw the downloadable cd, but would love to see them live.
They aren’t already defunct, are they?
Any info would be appreciated by their new legion of fans, thanks to you!
Keep up the good work!

One time I had a blog because I biked from Minneapolis to Iowa to see Wilco and then I talked to Jeff and I kept thinking over and over again: “don’t act like a stalker.” And then I was thinking about it in retrospect and I think I acted like a stalker. But Jeff had read my blog and it became this great story that I tell on first dates to demonstrate higher value, much like that sharp tye dye ensemble can be used for, at least according to Mystery. So my blog probably gave you the idea for a blog, huh? Pretty much I’m guessing. If you ever bike to Minneapolis to see my band, I promise to have read your blog.
