TV On Your Computer

For those of you who are wondering, “Can you watch TV on your computer?” The answer is yes. It quite easy, in fact. There are many free and cheap methods out there to get your TV anywhere. All of the options require an internet connection, and a couple methods require an additional piece of hardware. Most of the options have an awesome selection of channels, and all of them have an absolutely beautiful interface, which is a major need for me. Some of these TV-Computer methods make me wonder, “Why do we still own cable boxes when we have this?!” Anyway, here are your options.

  • Joost – Good Great channels and shows. Bad Requires Intel Processor (Intel chips are installed on all new Macs).
  • VeohTV – Good Great channels and shows. Bad Currently not available for Mac.
  • Miro – Good Good compatibility. Bad Not good selection of channels or shows.
  • SlingMedia – Good Connects and streams from live TV. Bad Requires additional transmitter for TV.
  • EyeTV – Good Connects and streams from live TV. Bad Requires additional transmitter for TV.
  • Veoh – Good Great channels and shows. Bad Nothing.
  • Hulu – Good Great channels and shows. Bad Currently in private beta.
