Makin’ A Difference

If there’s one thing that really ticks me off, it’s people who think “Oh, well.. Someone else will solve [a problem].” That kind of irresponsible, incompetent attitude is what DOESN’T get things done. Luckily, there are a lot of people who realize this – and they make the world a much better place. Now, if only everybody thought that way…

Today I came across a new website: BloggersUnite.org. In case the name didn’t tell you, it’s a place where bloggers can connect, find a cause, and spread the word. Here’s how it works: You find an event (e.g. Earth Day), join it, and use the tools on the website to tell people about it. Ultimately, it’s a great place to “make a difference,” as they say.

“Bloggers Unite is an attempt to harness the power of the blogosphere to make the world a better place. By asking bloggers to write about a particular subject on 1 day of the month, a single voice can be joined with thousands to help make a difference; from raising awareness for cancer, to an effort to better education systems or supporting 3rd world countries.” – BloggersUnite.org

SocialVibe, too, is a great resource for “people of the web” to take action. With SocialVibe, you can choose a sponsor which will help you earn money for your cause. On my profile, I support the cause “Peace and Human Rights” and am sponsored by Apple and Samsung. Through SocialVibe, you can raise money and really, really make a difference.

“We believe that empowering people to leverage their influence online can create positive impact for themselves, their brands, and their communities.   Our site allows you to Get Sponsored by your favorite brands on your social profiles while earning points for the reward of your choice.  We believe that making a real difference is possible without making a real difference to your bank account.  So we’ve built just the tool to allow you to earn the donation instead of giving one.  The tool is called The Badge and we know it has the power to make real world change, for you or for others.” – SocialVibe.com

On a somewhat related note (this makes a difference, too), NASA is letting the public decide the name of their next Space Station node. You can choose from pre-made names or suggest your own. Right now, “Colbert” is the leading name. Personally, I think it would be uh-mazing if Colbert won; I voted for him. You can vote, too, by going to NASA’s voting page.
